reading in bed

By 10/24/2007

every night, before i turn off the light to go to sleep - i read.

brian hates it. we fight constantly about it. he wants to go to sleep, in the dark. i have to read to unwind and keep my great intellect sharp.

do you have this problem? what do you do with your whiny husband?

  1. My husband hates my reading in bed also. He snores and I hate that, so until the snoring stops the reading continues.

P.S. I just voted over at AT. Hope you do a little Chuck Norris round house kick action on the competition. Kick some ass. :)

  3. Yes, same problem here. I even get in the bed a little earlier so I can have a little extra time to read without the background noise of his grumbling. If I didn't like him so much ...

  4. Found your blog through AT and you're quite funny. Loved your house (especially the moldings) and voted. As for the reading in bed, we both read in bed but my husband usually falls asleep before I do and fortunately, he doesn't mind if I continue to read. Although, I think he would prefer if I didn't. Hopefully, in the near future, we can create a little reading nook in our bedroom.

  5. kicking dawn, kicking!!

as for reading - i think i've got to do it in bed. nooking won't work. its sort of a seamless process. read = sleep eventually.

  6. I know what you mean. I get in bed and read until I start to nod off. Once I drop the book on the duvet, it's time to shut off the light & sleep. Sometimes I only need to read for 5 minutes, but if I don't read I may be up for hours.

Maybe your hubby should have a little nightcap to help him ease off to sleep. A shot of whisky & maybe he won't care if your light is on or not!

By the by, good luck in the color contest!

  7. i wish i read more in bed, but i end up watching old sex in the city reruns on tbs and my boyfriend hates that. he snores and i turn it up to drown out the snoring. and then i wake up at 3:30 am to some stupid infomercial. i haven't had a good nights sleep in years.
    love you jamie!

  8. He had to suck it up and get used to it. No grumbling allowed.

  9. hehehe, i'd be worried if i gave him a nightcap, mary, he'd want to really "nightcap", and then i wouldn't have furthered my cause at all.

  10. i love reading in bed. it's my trick to keep the tv off - which i hate when trying to go to sleep. i have found that if you read out loud to him, he'll fall asleep in 2.5 and then you can continue on with reading. and no tv.

  11. my mom used to always read in bed, she puts this pink sheer over the lamp, or redish...in color..and the room is still lit with a little bit of a nice warm red tone, so my dad could fall asleep. (if someone else mentioned this...i'm sorry...i just didnt' read the other comments)

  12. Last month I so much required to defeat excessive fat. Nothing helped. After very long exploration I came across the medication which matched me most. You shop could check out!
