Stupid question maybe: I was with my mom this weekend and she is from the South. At one point she said "I suwannee" or at least that's what it sounded like. She said her grandparents used to say it all the time, that it's slang for "I swear" or something of that ilk. And I immediately thought of your blog--Is that where you got the title?
my mom, grandma and aunt say it ALL THE TIME. it does mean i swear, most literally, but they also use it like, "well, i'll be", or "have you ever", or "that is something", or "can you believe that?"
