twilight

i've.been.officially.sucked.in. (no pun intended...well maybe). i read it in two nights. i have no idea what the deal is that makes this book so compelling (one good theory: edward cullen).

at the end, when she thinks he finally might do it - and he's all up on her neck, "are you ready for it now?". i thought i would hyperventilate. how lusty!

i'm renting the movie tonight, then i've got to get the next book, STAT.

this is ridiculous.

  1. I understand it totally sucks you in. I was actually reading the third book during labor (natural). It will be such a let down when you are done reading the series. After watching the movie you will find yourself cyberstalking Rob Pattinson. Just warning you.

  2. I was almost angry that my small public library didn't have this (it is on order). After reading your entry, I feel like I cannot wait any longer and must go buy it. Now.

  3. Clear your schedule because the next three books are enthralling! Enjoy!

  4. oh man... I hear you! Once I started the first I could do little else until all four were finished... they are SO good and create a strange addiction/pull. Have fun reading them! The movie isn't nearly as good as the book, but the consolation prize is Rob Pattinson. Yum.

  5. I read all 4 in a 10 day time period! Totally took over my life and took months for me to quit obsessing! I have yet to see the movie (I own the dvd) because I know it will take over my life AGAIN!
Edward Cullen is the PERFECT man/character!

  6. OH MY GOSH. Be prepared to turn into a teenager for the duration of the series. I just finished the last book a few days ago and I feel a massive whole in my chest! I Dreamt, slept and thought vampires for a good week and a half (vacation?). My boyfriend thinks i am INSANE.

To further theinsanity ladies- go to the authors website and read teh unreleased draft of "midnight sun"- the authors re-take on the first novel- written ENTIRELY from Edward's perspective . SWOOOOON>>> you cant print it, but you can read it on adobe reader for free.
Glad Im not the only full grown lady that got sucked in.

  7. All my girls are smitten. We made the youngest one wait until she was a teenager and it was like a right of passage to read the first one. That movie seems to be on here like 24/7! Enjoy!

  8. If you are like me, you'll now spend stupid amounts of time finishing the next 3 books. There is just something about them that sucks you in and doesn't allow you to stop until you are finished.

  9. I dunno. I devoured the first book, slowed down in the second, and have been stalled between the second and third for months. Come tell us what you think after book 2.

  10. just wait till you get to book 3 & 4. Edward Cullen is one hunky piece. the movie will disappoint - but Robert Pattinson is totally worth it.

  12. i hear ya. just finished #4. i'm sad. the movie made me sad too - at least there's still hope for the second, third and fourth movies.

    ReplyDelete
  13. about that last comment, it should be noted that by sad i mean disappointed.

    ReplyDelete
  14. and by disappointed i mean that the series is over and the movie sucked.
    ok, i'm done. seriously.

  15. I am completely addicted to them, I just finished the last 4th book after starting the first a week ago! Robert Pattinson is the hottest man alive!!!

PS- the soundtrack is great too!

  16. I read them all and liked them. So perfect for the beach. BUT what do you think about your DAUGHTERS reading them? Isn't Bella just a little too obsessive? Wanting to kill herself? Seriously? Then, "OOOh, I can't decide I love them both..." all that nonsense made me want to slap her, and keep my daughter far far away....

But, a great fantasy read for mom, that's for sure..

  17. i would like to STONGLY SECOND the advice to read "midnight sun"! seriously, it's even better than the original....

  18. Okay, I totally resisted this whole 'twilight' thing but now you've sucked me in too. If you think the book is that compelling, I'm definitely going to have to read it.

  19. I got totally sucked in to these books I think for me being in my
30's it reminded me of lovely young love. The husband will thank you - there was so much sexual tension in these books that my husband was ravaged most nights oops.

  20. I'm glad you've hopped on the bandwagon! And yeah, cyberstalking Robert Pattinson is definitely in your future.

  21. I am not far ahead of you. This exact thing happend to me about a month ago. Never had a care in the world to see the "teen obsession" movie, etc. Was bored on a Sunday and it was playing at the $1.50 movie. After coming out of the movie I went directly to the book store and bought New Moon. I had to know what happened next!! It's a sickness. I was one of the first to buy the movie when it came out, and read all of the books within a couple weeks. It's so addicting. I am a 34 yr. old woman.

I have tried to figure out what it is with this Twilight saga that attracts me, and obviously so many other grown women, and the thing I come up with is the head over heels passionate love that Edward and Bella have for one another. Don't we all want that in a relationship. A man to protect us, fight for us, do anything for us.

That's all I got, but yes... it sucks you right in, and now watch.... I will be one of the few grown women standing in line at Midnight on November 19th with a million screaming and crying teenagers pushing my way to get a good seat in the theater to see what happens next with E&B! HA - LOL...

  22. Welcome to the club! I am a married mother of 2 with a graduate degree who can't get enough. There's a HUGE online community of women of all ages who feel the same (it's a nutty girl thing -- men don't get it).

The books are a sorely-needed dose of romance a la Mr. Darcy in a time when nude photos e-mailed from camera phones constitutes foreplay. I say men can learn a thing or two (or ten) from our Edward Cullen. Thank you, Stephenie Meyer!

The movie was flat, but no matter. Robert Pattinson is a beautiful, beautiful boy -- and adorably bewildered by all the "Twilight" mania. I'm really looking forward to the release of "Little Ashes."

    You'll love the insanity!

  23. Me too! And I don't understand why I loved this series so much! I am devestated that I finished them and now don't any anymore to read. That was until I found True Blood (both the books and the tv show = awesomeness)

  24. I haven't read the books, but I actually just watched the film last night and there are times when the acting was a little bad and I could not believe I was watching it.

But then there were times when, like you, I thought I would hyperventilate at the intense anticipation. I am now compelled to read the book.

  26. oh and ps-
since you're also in Raleigh, you can join my gang of cougars who will trample all the preteens at the opening of New Moon.

  27. It only gets worse from here. Until you've read all the books, the leaked copy of Midnight Sun on Stephanie Meyer's website, watched the movie, bought the movie and even considered purchasing the trashy book about the movie. I chronicaled my own obsession here. Then, three months later, you'll finally be able to spend a day without imagining that Edward Cullen is real.

  28. bitches your comments scare me. It's like a series of junkies saying how -drug-of-choice- is addictive and amazing and will change you life. I'll stay out of it.

  29. Welcome to the club! I burned through the first three books in like 7 days. It was frighteningly happy!

As for the movie, Rob (aka Edward) makes me squirm. He's fiercely hot. The parts that count (aka NOT the horrid "special" effects and weird makeup) are perfection!

    ReplyDelete
  30. If you can get past the first part in the movie where they are WAY over acting..it is not that bad. My best friend and I took her 14 year old daughter to see the movie. It's good to be young..or at least feel young!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I would definitely NOT rent the movie until you are done with the series. Just wait, with each book you'll get more and more sucked in!

  32. Oh girl. You're in for a ride in book 2.

Call me crazy, but book 4 RUINED it ALL for me. Awesome characters doing awesomely bad, uncharacteristic things and a terrible ending.

When you're done, I recommend you read Outlander! For some reason, all the adult twi-hards love it and I am obsessed! (PLEASE PLEASE read Outlander!!!!)

Love the pun! Team Edward or Jacob?

  34. I took my two girls to the midnight showing when it was released never expecting that I might actually enjoy it. Oh, did I. If I was a 17 year old girl, that Edward Cullen would be in trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I too have wondered why I spent hours a night reading the Twilight series. Still, I read, and I enjoyed every minute of it!

  36. oy. step away from the twilight and grab the nearest copy of wuthering heights. save yourselves!

  37. Dahling. I read all four books in four days. I'm not sure how - I have a full-time job at a hospital and a husband - but I couldn't stop until I knew how it all ended. Meyer nails teen angst on the head, right down to the physical manifestations. I had flashbacks to my worst high school break-up like a bad acid trip.
Have tissues on hand for New Moon and read it a second time. The parts you'll speed read through are bittersweet, but they feel like a speedbump at the time.

  38. In an interview Rob said anything you read about him can't possibly be true because he doesn't do anything print-worthy. I won a 6' Edward (a story I'd rather not be on the internets) and have decided to let him be Rob's alter-ego. My friends & family take him all sorts of fun places, taking pics along the way. He's done practical jokes and is about to drive cross-country with us. Rob will be so jealous....

  41. As a 25-year-old former English major, I felt the same way when I began the series a month ago! Now, seriously 4 weeks later, I have finished all 4 books. I hope you enjoy them all!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Caution: these books will consume your life until you have finished them. I recommend holing up and getting them out of your way. You won't be able to think/communicate like a normal human until you do.
    Good luck and God speed.

  43. Oh thank goodness it's not just me! I feel so much better after reading these comments. :) I thought my friend was a little loony when she kept going on about the Twilight saga, but then I watched the movie (and didn't hate it). Afterwards, I had to get the books immediately and finished the first three in like four days. I made myself wait a bit before the last one just because I knew I'd be sad when it was over.
