Benzoyl peroxide kills coloured towels too. At least you can bleach a white one.

Martha already addressed the issue: you have to embroider "makeup" on a single dark washcloth to make sure your guests know not to use the white cloths for that. Because then you would have to cut them into tiny pieces and throw them in the compost heap.

White towels get an Oh Hell Yes from me, because they can be washed on Boil and dried on Broil and never fade. Yeah, my bathroom looks a little clinical, but it sure beats having faded, slightly funky towels that I have to baby.

I'm a color towel fan (Hot Pink and Orange at the moment) but I keep a stack of white wash cloths and hand towels for make up removal because you can bleach them until they're clean and they tend to be less expensive then than color options so replacement, when need, is easier.
