i'd also try the belk dress section @ crabtree- they have a suprisingly good selection
ReplyDeleteThese are a little prom-ish, but maybe with the right accessories?

You should wear you pocketed brown dress with tights. I think that would be a much better option. Since it's summer, I wouldn't really recommend doing opaque black tights with chunky black heels which i would otherwise suggest. Try sheer tighs or how about a pair of grey tights from here:

or a pair from urban outfitters has quite a varied selection too.
I don't know about anyone else, but in my opinion skinny little wedding heels look strange with tights and a short dress. go for a shoe with a solid heel.
make sure you show us your final decision!!
alex, talk me through this.
ReplyDeletegray tights? light or dark? what kind of shoes?
i'm sort of into this idea. just don't know how to pull it off without looking like a fool.
tights are a cute option, but if there's any sort of heat going on (it is july!), you're going to go bananas!
ReplyDeleteNot to mention probably scratch through the tights (darn poison ivy!).
I say hit up Forever 21--you're bound to find something there (and won't break the bank).
Saw a cute brown maxi dress there yesterday, as well as an adorable indian print one that had a brown background.
if, by chance, you go with the long dress from jcrew, there is an extra 20 off and free shipping until tomorrow, I think. enter EXTRA20 at checkout. good luck!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to email you some ideas at your furbish website email as I can't seem to find any other one on your blog. you won't look like a fool, i promise.
ReplyDeletedefinately check out this dress at jcrew: http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WomenBrowse/Women_Shop_By_Category/dresses/weddingsparties/PRDOVR~11429/99101642969/ENE~1+2+3+22+4294967294+20~~~20+17+4294967174~90~~~~~~~/11429.jsp
ReplyDeletei heart this dress! it is long and very chic!
if the beading is allowed around the neck - this is really cute and a great sale price!!

Not sure if this is brown enough:

just sent some ideas to your email. Better options in the most recent posts but I still like the shorter dress because it's summer. aesthetically i just think its a better choice. No need to spend $300 on a new dress because of poison ivy.
ReplyDeleteMaybe this is a little too casual but check it out anyway: http://www.ardenb.com/catalog/product.jsp?categoryId=136&subCategoryId=745&productId=20349
ReplyDeleteHope you find what you're looking for !!!
Go to Nordstroms for tights. I have a pair of DKNY tights that look nude.
ReplyDeleteHere is another maxi dress , but somewhat pricy:

ReplyDeleteI'm wearing this for a wedding in October (sans tights) but this is a good idea.
I am not the one to be giving you advice on proper poison-ivy induced wedding attire changes BUT that picture makes want to sing the sound of music soundtrack start to finish.
ReplyDeleteStop it with the tights. It's hot as F outside and you have poison ivy. Don't encase your legs in anything.
ReplyDeleteThat's all I have to say.
Nordstrom has a section of maxi dresses, but I LOVE this gown. A little pricey, but wow!

i vote no on the tights.
ReplyDeletethis is super cute (and i think on additional sale until the end of the day today)

Eh?(Tights in July in the South seems like a nightmare.)
I don't want to be a naysayer without an alternative, but I think covering poison ivy with tights could almost make it worse! And hot!
ReplyDeletei have an unworn brown bridesmaid dress from Watters, size ten, no alterations that is brown!
ReplyDeleteDeep long back, modest front, sleeveless.
omg. That picture reminds me of Michelle Duggar! hahah
ReplyDeleteHere's some! Good luck in your search- hope you find the perfect thing.

i vote no tights ever. personally, i would just rock the poison ivy legs and short dress, but i have a degree in biology and am super-dorky like that. if you can't do short dress sans tights, then i vote jcrew or some similar, expensive last-minute option.
ReplyDeleteI am new to your blog and have been enjoying immensely! No fshion suggestions but dealt with a heinous case of poison ivy in May (was looking ever so lovely for graduations, funerals) Tries all of the topicals, soaks and oral steroids to no avail. Topical steroid creme worked wonders-cheap and worked almost right away. Who knows? Maybe a shot for the cute, short brown dress!
ReplyDeleteThat sucks about the ivy!
ReplyDeleteIf you are still looking for some dress ideas, here are a few more:
BCBG Lace Trim
BCBG w/beading (this seller has a lot of sizes in the same style)
BCBG Jersey Dress
Gathered Waist Dress
just wear fishnets or patterned tights
ReplyDeletei can vouch that the Sophia dress is gorgeous. i just bought the short version (in vintage blue) for a wedding i'm in and LOVE IT. the fabric is delicious, the price is right.
ReplyDeleteps love love love your blog. fab/
Not sure if you're into strapless, but as it happens I was recently looking at this one — on sale for $110:

ReplyDeleteJ.Crew, if you're willing to drop an assload of money on a dress. BUT, it's very chic. Looks like you got a TON of advice, hope you are able to find something perfect!
If you're still looking, I think this will be the perfect dress ................ it's long and brown and it's on sale !
ReplyDeletehttp://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=26497&vid=1&pid=646659
I always use shopbop.com as a starting point.
ReplyDeletelove,
Rachel
This is going to sound stupid, but I'd single stitch something gauzy / breathable to the existing dress - matching up seams to the original.
ReplyDeleteYou don't want to mess up the procession with zombie legs, but it's not as if you're the star of this event. You can be the cute friend in the fug dress. It will take heat off the other bridesmaids.
Go with what you have and keep your fingers away from your legs. A steady low dose of Benadryl (too much makes me hyper) will help out.
