I'm so happy you shared this article. The differences between intrinsic and extrinsic goals is what touched me the most. It's all about changing our mindset. I do believe the pursuit of beauty is intrinsic.
As a maker/designer/artist I often struggle with the call I feel to create - which involves creating THINGS. Lately I've been trying to view it as my way of communicating with others, instead of just being a product pusher. I'd love to read your thoughts, or struggles if any, on this. You may be able to articulate it much better given your english major;)
You're right - it's how you know to express yourself. I am drawn to pretty things. It seems to be at the fiber of my being. I try to find objects that tell a story or make other people feel a certain way when they include them in their home. That's got to be real!
