dresses for a fall southern cali wedding

By 11/03/2018

i mentioned a post or so back that i'm headed on a little vacay for t-day.  tad and i are going to southern california for his cousin's wedding, then spending a few days in venice before we head to playa del carman and then tulum for turkey day.

this whole wedding in the foreign country of california in the fall (do they even celebrate fall there!?) is tripping me out.  i instagrammed about the cute off the shoulder cynthia rowley dress but honestly, i just didn't feel it enough to pull the trigger.

it's black tie optional (wtf, life is life-optional.  you can eat breakfast, you can't.  you can like dogs, you can like cats.  you can wear athletic wear leisurely, you can support him or her or it.  we've got so many OPTIONALS.  so i'm just gonna wear what i want.  once i decide what pray tell that is.  i have three days left to decide.

and sidebar, my therapist and i are working on this fun little concept that some people choose to accept already - that everyone isn't paying attention to you all of the time.  or really, any of the time!  (this is news to me - i'm the archetype of an only child, i literally think i am at the epicenter of everyone's focus, for better or oftentimes, worse)  so once i embrace that, perhaps i can start caring less about what i'm wearing to this wedding where i know 3 people, and more about, well.  more about who to vote for?  i have about .01% of my brain occupied for that (how does one find the time to fully educate themselves on who to vote for so they can make an informed decision, and then what happens when you think you understand that person and then they change?).  oh bother.

MAYBE JUST DRESSES THEN.

  1. Please don't tell me that you really can NOT find the time to educate yourself about voting. Sorry to be a pill, but your white privilege is spilling out all over the place. Please, get it together.

    1. i see how that comment could come across as white privilege - but seriously, how does one find the time to educate themselves about every candidate, and vote on merit and intentions and precedent, and then after all that, hope that they're honest, steadfast and actually going to do what they say they will. do you vote just to keep the person you don't want to win out of office? do you vote defensively? offensively? aggressively? it seems like it needs a strategy, and for a strategy to work, you can have know all the facts, and knowing the facts, on every person and every position seems overwhelming to me. especially when you're dealing with politics, where things aren't what they seem, power corrupts and the public can never be fully informed.

    2. Yes, I can see how intimidating it might seem. But you don't have to be perfect to cast your vote. You might miss something, the person you voted for might turn out to be a complete dud, or a liar, or worse. But as someone much older than you, let me just tell you it is worth it to take a chance. I don't care who gets your vote and I am not saying you have to devote weeks of time to this, but its not a pop quiz. We knew November 6 was coming, there is plenty of time, if you are interested in investing it. I know I might sound like a complete ass, and I don't mean to be an ass. But it is important, and you deserve to have a say, even if you are unsure. Sometimes its a leap of faith, but like life, you have to take chances. You can do it!!! :)

  2. All great dresses...my vote is Third Row #1 (I am going to steal the shoes off of third row #2 though.) Regarding real votes: https://votesaveamerica.com/north-carolina

  3. I hardly ever comment on blogs. Unless it's about something like that Cynthia Rowley dress......which is to die for. In my opinion of course. Now go school yourself on those North Carolina candidates, get out and vote and then reward yourself afterwards by buying that dress. It would look beautiful in Mexico too!

  4. a good way to have enough time to be an educated member of our civil society (i.e. know enough to vote like a reasonable human) is to cut the time you are spending buying shitty sofas or contemplating over-priced floors for your closet. there! found you some time.

    1. Kaye, that is NO way to encourage someone to vote.
