  1. I agree, and I think it's easy to mix brass with silver and still look chic.

  2. Yay! Does this mean I don't have to redo the 90's bathroom fixtures in our house?

  7. I definitely think antique or hand rubbed brass is definitely in right now. It is quite beautiful. However, the shiny 1988 brass is still gross.

  8. I agree but I still won't go there -- didn't like it my folks house growing up, don't like it now! In fact, everything from my parents house that I considered tacky mom and dad stuff is now called "hollywood regency."

  12. The tables looks like they're sponge-painted with gold paint! (Not in a bad way necessarily.) I wonder if they could be DIYed with mirror tops on them...

  13. I've been thinking the EXACT same thing. But not necessarily the super shiny brass. I like the rubbed look.

  14. I'm with Paloma, shiny brass is still terrible! But LOVE these. Erika at Urban Grace says it should be "unlacquered."

  19. I saw once on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy that if you wanted your gold "less shiny" to sponge it down with bleach.

I've never tried it, I'm just saying.

I heart brass too, silver is tired.

  20. i've been riding the vintage brass wave (not shiny 80's - but you never know) and can't get enough.

i used to hate the stuff but have been swooning over it as of late.

my new favorite marble table has the cutest brass base - and it looks AMAZING with my shiny silver Bertoia chair.

    yum.

  23. I love unlacquered brass too. You can strip the lacquer off! There is a lovely patina that brass gets, unlike silver that just looks like you are lazy. I, too, like the mix of metals. If you gold leaf something and want it to look old, try using amber shellac on it. It looks great with a black under primer peaking through. Maybe the brass my ass movement will remind us, it's what we love, not what others tell us we should love that makes our homes ours.
