a sweet baby bird nursery - liz tatum

By 7/25/2018
liz tatum is a local raleigh girl who's been in the furbish fam for years.  we were so stoked when she fell in love with one of our oushaks for the starting point in her babe-to-be's nursery, and couldn't wait to see how the room turned out.

as luck would have it, anna was able to photograph liz and her sweet nursery, and i'm excited to share it with you guys --and just in time too - liz is due in a few days!

liz told me that the biggest challenge was the oversized room. 'we had built-ins and shelves crafted to warm up the space. we also strategically placed light sources as a way to brighten up the corners'.

liz said, 'because of the dimensions of this converted bonus room, a friend said it feels like a treehouse up here'.  i think she did a great job of making what could be an awkward attic room feel like a sanctuary, with thoughtful choices rather than quick-fixes.

liz's favorite pieces? the oushak rug, sunshine mirror and palm wallpaper set the tone for our baby bird's nest. 'we chose pieces we think will stand the test of time and grow with our babe'.

we all know it's overwhelming to design a room, especially when there are so many freaking choices these days. I asked liz where she found her inspiration:
-young house love blog
-laurel and wolf is a savvy design site that assisted with the layout.
-and always a california vibe!

before & after: an ehhhh entry gets some extra lovin'

By 7/17/2018
sharing another project from jessica's house: an entryway that was failing to give her any feels, and how she gave it life with a brand new lewk!  ohhh, i think yal are gonna dig this one!

jessica was constantly feeling the entry in her home felt really unfinished. she said 'no matter what art or rugs i used, the white walls felt super boring and nothing popped against them.'

before

after

the most marvelous thing about the makeover is the wayne pate wallpaper from studio four in nyc.  it completely transformed the space.

each bedroom in her ranch house has a bit of blue and white, so for the hallway connecting them all, jessica picked a unifying color palette, but played the classic colors up with a vibrant, fun pattern. 'it really looks hand painted, which i love," she says.

the lemon chandelier was vintage find during a decorating job we did in palm beach. she added wicker shades.

after

jessica said the challenge was that it's a small space and doesn't get much light. 'i wanted it to feel special without being cluttered'.

she chose simple, tailored, classic pieces like the sisal rug (from our local fave eatman's) and the urban electric light fixture since the wallpaper is such a statement.

chic little people rooms

By 7/10/2018
i heard from so many of you yesterday that's it tough to find good inspiration for kid's rooms, especially nurseries that are pretty, and practical, and i agree.  whilst babes are on the brain, here's a few more little people lairs that i think are good-looking.

(and jessica appreciates all the kind words here and on IG about her nursery - thank you!)

and a few things that i think would make a nursery really special

designing a room around a Persian rug

By 5/02/2018
i fully support the put a persian down first rule of decorating - and i'm feeling a bit inspired this morning by one of our latest rugs - the chesterfield.

9 new rugs online this morning, including this super-attractive one, which as you can see - could definitely get the party started. see below for sources.
