ikea bound

By 2/18/2009

the new ikea in charlotte opened today. my mom and i are going to go this weekend (she doesn’t know that yet). it’s going to be totally crazy, i know.

i’m making a list of staples i need. number 1 is sheep skins. they are absolutely essential in our house for saving our couch from rowdy. olivia is very helpful in that whenever she thinks it’s time to replace an old one, she’ll pee on it.

i’m also interested in their new fabrics, as well as a dog bowl stand, and possibly a light fixture to replace the terrible one in our study.

  3. Our dogs use that dog bowl stand. We looked all over for a stand and ended up coming home with this one on a whim because of the price.

  4. how fun! after living in two ikea cities in a row, i don't think i could survive without one (at the risk of sounding overdramatic). next on my list...white dinner plates!!

  6. Ooh! I need to make a run at some point, too! I used to live within an hour of three IKEA's in CA so I have been going thru withdrawls.

  7. my mom and i are plotting our trek too ...

i would not be one of those crazy folk waiting for 48 hours in line just to get a free $150 chair though!

  8. The dog bowl stand is crap. It fell over with my dog. - but he's a feisty chocolate lab. Maybe yours won't be as anxious to eat :)

  10. Hi! Betsy and I were crazy enough to go on opening day. We sat in a car line for about 30 minutes. The place was mobbed. One woman said to me while trying to get her cart by, "hey we came on opening day might as well saddle in and go with it!" Well said. You would never know the economy was struggling.
It was fun, crowded or not!

  11. I was so thrilled to find an Ikea in Shanghai when I moved here! Never ever go on a weekend. With 18million people every Saturday is like opening day. And summers are a bad time to buy couches. People come in and take naps on them to enjoy the air conditioning. Other than that, just like home!

  13. This sounds crazy, but I have heard you can wash sheepskin on cold and air dry. I'm going to join you and go to Ikea and get a couple of these, too. I am worried my dog will want to eat them, though. He likes fluffy things.

    I found this:

  14. I hope you didn't get that dog bowl stand because it is sooo sooo ungood. It'll end up toppled more than you can count.

Better to use some books and plastic until you can find one more suitable.
