sweater - a cardigan always on a flight.  the more i can burrow into it the better.  i have a disappointing track record of not sleeping a lick on planes, but i really feel the ultimate secret to success has to be in bundling.  i enjoy traveling in this cardigan from asos at the present, but an upgrade to shawl blanket type item is being researched.

earrings - these are always a call the morning of.  sometimes there's a tiny flicker of motivation to try at life stirring inside of you at 3:45am when you're getting dressed in the dark - so you throw on an easy pair, but sometimes the only thing - and i mean only thing on my mind those early-travel mornings is an everything bagel with jalapeño cream cheese from brueggers at the airport, so cute earrings don't make the list.  I feel better when they do though - you can cruise off the plane straight to a lunch, or a coffee catch-up meeting and you've got a little something going on.

nikes - these air forces ones are so freaking light.  like, i make everyone hold them so i can say, "see how light?" and they can be amazed.  it's a fact.  so they're easy to pack, but equally super-comfortable to travel in.  i think they're pretty dope, and at least two other teenagers will, so you've got fodder for new friendship, and they can do double-duty everyday shoes, and workout shoes.  bloop bloop.

good book - i think i don't read as much as I used to because i got a tv in the bedroom.  but, also worth considering,  i used to read every night to get to sleep, and lord knows i had a bevy of bullshit on my brain i was sorting through, so reading would start to filter out some of the more outrageous things and allow me to finally wind down.  as life would have it,  i find its a little easier, generally, to get to sleep at night now and unfortunately, my reading window has closed.  so i read almost exclusively on planes now.  i just finished this one. 

headphones - more than anything, i wear headphones to sleep.  i can't fit any earbuds in my ears (they're tiny i guess?) so i have to go with the bizness and these bose headphones do the trick for noise-cancelling.

comme des garçons shirts - just recently discovered their cute striped cotton long sleeved shirts, and i've been bringing a couple on trips.  really no matter the weather, they're a perfect, easy to stuff in a suitcase without wrinkling option for layering.

kiehl's mist - i get super dry on planes.  really kinda all the time these days.  this mist, if nothing, smells great and is refreshing and cool on tired, parched skin when you land, but it also boosts tibetan ginseng which increases skin-cell respiration.

hand cream - again with kiehl's but this is the best hand cream I've found.  it's super velvety and feels actually nurturing and the smell is everything.   it's travel size too.

batiste dry shampoo  - i put this on the night before I fly.  if i wash my hair before bed, i wake up with it kinda limp and bleh, so i add some of this to the roots and it gives it a lil life, plus it smells delicious.


melatonin - if I'm headed to a different time-zone for a bit, partially to Colorado or California, I'll take a melatonin at the front and back end of the trip to give myself a fighting chance of getting a good night's sleep during the transition.  I have gnarly dreams when I take it - those epic soap-opera worthy dramas.  kinda the best.

that has to be created - it's a lot sometimes to stay on top of it.  but i tell you, i'm trying  i want to write more.  please keep telling me how great i am at it.  maybe if you love on my ears enough i'll turn into a real girl blogger.

let's be honest.  right now, ig stories are the most fun - it's instant gratification.  i tried to stay on top of my game in mexico, but then i come home and found i've blown my wad completely and there are no pics left to share. 

but here's the good thing maybe.  it forces me to look for what's interesting.  to keep an extra eye peeled (yes, an extra eye - why not) for things that are pretty.  for color.  for angles and extras and spots and corners that may have missed my attention before.  so i think that's nice.

i'm lucky that i have anna in my life to chronicle the most amazing moments.  i'm on a mission to start printing some of her photographs from our trips to frame - i started with a shot from our trip to peru.  framebridge has a new american hardwoods collection i thought i'd try.  i wouldn't usually go for a wood frame, but the vibe seemed to fit with the photo of the cacti, and it just feels sort of peruvian to me.  i'm so glad i did - the walnut is warm, but still modern and it makes me happy against the white wall. 




i framed my william mclure painting and i have to tell you, i feel extremely fancy and art-centric.  it's just who i am now.  i don't have a good pic but i do have a pic of one he just framed - lerwk!



i felt so moved by the experience that we're offering 6 of his collages custom framed on the site now, so you too can share this feeling of fance with me.


i framed my lucy auge paintings and they're real attractive - i really enjoy the red lacquer frame.  i did 4 but 3 seem to fit over the bed just fine, and one less blows tad's mind less, so it's a winning situation.  i'll make the bed up and take a real picture in due time, but for now - here's a start.


my framed guatemalan textile hangs back the back door and cheerfully says 'sup everytime i walk in the door.  i'm so glad i used it - most of my textile finds go in a stack or a pile and while there's strength in numbers, no one really gets to shine in this sort-of communist arrangement.  the guatemalan piece is living it's dream.  so inspired was i by this, that i framed the last two pieces i brought back and they're available on the site to enrich the life of 2 more artful sophisticates, like yourself.

we finished a really nice living room this week - here's a custom-built banquette in the corner smothered with pillows.


southern living named me one of the most stylish people in the south.  my mom would've plastered a tour bus with the article, so i feel pretty lucky.  she hated my red hair and surely she'd have wanted me to put on something decent, but i does what i can.

this morning we're flying to nashville to eat the foods.  rolf + daughters, husk and city house.  i brought some workout clothes purely on principle, but i doubt conditions will be favorable.  will report live on IG stories - over and out.

i'm so stoked to be headed back to mexico for thanksgiving next week.  we spent last thanksgiving in playa del carmen and tulum - and it was extraceptional.  in all of my 37 years, it was the first time i've gone rogue for the holiday, and it felt amazingly light and liberating to do your own thing on a day that has such a strong charge around it.  lots of us feel the stress of that comes with high-expectation holidays, and i can't say enough to advocate just letting yourself off the hook once in a while.  you don't have to be everywhere and do everything, for everyone else, ya know?

i fell down an instagram hole the other night that started with rag & bone's creative director and ended up on the cookie monster, but somewhere in between, i got inspired and decided 'who i want to be' on this vacation and consequently piled up a cart full of life-altering kaftans and cover-ups.  (you know that feeling - when you're planning a vacation and it's so obviously an opportunity to be your best, most chic-est self.  you'll dress differently, laugh prettier, your self-tanner won't be orange this time, there's probably a cocktail previously undiscovered that will be your new drink when you return home and your friends will be all 'look at you now, drinking tequila and soda!".

i know i always claim that i love each and every pop-up shop that furbish features, and that i snag a piece here and i snag a piece there - but here's the thing: i really really do.  we have featured over 40 artists since we started this thang over 3 years ago and to say i am out of wall space is an understatement.  art is now hanging on shelves, propped on the floor, even stuck to the refridgerator.  as i sit typing this in my office, just the wall in front of me hosts pieces from blakely little, theresa drapkin, jenny andrews anderson, camilla perkins and dorothy shain.

seems like we're all ready for a change.  fall feels close, and real white girls like me feel fall. always aiming to keep it simple, trying for a modicum of chic, and angling to keep it accessible.

if it feels like i dropped off the face of the universe, i did. most definitely been in crazytown the past week. what better way to lose your mind than move an apartment, a house and an office in one week. deadlines work for me, however, so being mostly settled into all the appropriate places, i'm the plane now, headed to lima for the week with jessica and anna.

after unpacking all my earthly possessions, it became very clear that i do not have enough pom poms, so we're off to peru to buy them all. when i wasn't schlepping boxes this past week, i tried to hold my phone still and point it at things to share with you.

last week, at a preview party hosted by the scout guide, i toured the djf builders designer show house and spoke on a panel alongside the founders of the scout guide, hosted by brandshop.  this little sunroom by anne wagoner was a pretty moment in the morning light.

amidst the mess, i tried my best to pull it together, with help from ashley and her team at vermillion.  loving these chloe pants and isabel marant top, paired with rag & bone boots.

our first dinner in the new house.  the yard is proving to be extra bountiful for bouquets, and i'm glad to have a table large enough to finally try out my favorite coral taper candles.

i realize my IG account has turned a bit foodie of late, but this shiz is too good not to share.

unpacking the blue and white.   i feel like i've been squirreling away a bowl here and plate there for years.  it's nice to put it all together.

the soft opening at brewery bhavana, vansana and vanvisa's newest endeavor (next door to bida manda).  a huge light-filled space, housing a brewery, flower shop, and bookstore, the restaurant serves over 20 types of dumplings.  there's a huge wall of books on the back wall for borrowing and browsing.  in an effort to let go of some 'things' in my life, i donated all of my paperback books to van, thinking at least this way, i'll be able to visit them often.  the space is really special - and seems to be continually cultivated each time i visit

dena, the florist at bhavana, hand-delivered this lovely spring arrangement to brighten up an empty-for-now bookcase.

my new house is right across the park from cameron village so we've been sneaking over to an old favorite, tazza kitchen, for late dinners at the bar.  this chamomile topped cocktail was as charming as it was critical after long days of moving.

speaking of charming, i've already laid claim to a set of english artist lucy auge's lovely floral studies - we'll be featuring plenty more tomorrow on furbish tomorrow at 11am when her pop-up shop goes live!

another spoil from my new neighborhood walks - the dogwoods are bright with new blooms each morning.  april showers are proving to be dependable as nature does it's duty here in raleigh - the awful yellow pollen gets swept away and the bushes and trees and awash with pinks and purples.

my office at home is full to the brim, with a huge ikea bookcase housing a few of my favorite collections, including textiles from traveling and blue and white porcelain.

and clearly, i still find time to eat during any duress.  i tried city market sushi for the first time, and after being completely spoiled at matsuhisa in aspen this winter, was glad to find a spot in raleigh to satisfy my out-of-control handroll hankerings
