go on, take your pants off.

By 6/08/2018
here we are: summer in north carolina, and with it, an overwhelming urgency to take your pants off.  sticky, muggy, hot and humid, the weather is gross, and wearing anything that touches your body too aggressively right now is a strong no-no in my book.  i'm transitioning to long loose dresses for the season, and here are a few faves that won't break the bank, or a sweat.  hah.  ha.  ha.
1 - not-too-sweet floral number that would be so cute with those jcrew earrings i posted yesterday and a black sandal like these // 2 - super simple and chicer than chic, I'd pair this white dress with a big sunhat for full summer vibes // 3 - this dress is $44 and so cute - buy it.  how great with a leather jacket for fall?

1 - I love all the mara Hoffman items, and this dress has a great shape, plus a fun color palette.  I'd probably wear with my Stella platforms // 2 - I'd funk this short dress up a bit with leather booties // 3 - perfect for summer holidays, this dress could be cute a white low top converse to keep it from being too girly.
1 - a friend was wearing this dress the other day and it was stunning.  she wore it with these great clogs and it was perfect // 2 - so freaking comfortable when it's hotter than hot, this is the dress i can't wait to get home and into // 3 - love the colors in this striped dress - I'd pair with a black mule to dress it up a bit.
1 - my other go to when it's too hot for much of anything, plus it's a great vacation dress (love it with a cute bag like this one!) // 2 - just bought this dress at target and three people stopped me yesterday when I was wearing it to ask where it was from // 3 - super cute with it's bright embroidery, I'd pair this dress with these earrings

if wishes were tails, and tails had money.

By 5/30/2018
if the fairy shoe godfather of wishes were to grant me a discretionary budget and only request one thing, that I spend it at the barney's shoe sale, (which in the past he’s been prone to do about none times), i would proceed as follows:
Chloe // stella // no. 6 // Valentino
Adidas // Isabel marant // rag & bone // Stella
Adidas // maison margiela // Prada // golden goose // vans // Phillip lim

my (surprisingly good) edit of the huge nordstrom sale

By 5/25/2018
in the retail world, nordstrom's half-yearly sale has hurricane-force winds, yet to me, it sort of saunters by with a gentle puff (noted, but not-interested) - HOWEVER! i must've gotten caught up in a gust this year, because i dug in and found some really GOOD things - it was actually a bit of a breeze.

WTF with this wind metaphor?!?!  dumb.

in all seriousness, some of these finds are actually quite dope.  up to 40% on some isabel marant items, a couple of major-scores on coats, vans for like $40, two options for freaking cashmere leggings, and the right pair of levis for $60.  some of this stuff is pricey, and i don't mean to be an asshole with the fancy thangs, but really, if you were ever going to buy, wouldn't this be the time to invest now when the getting is guhd?  i doth protest the time is now.  okurrrrrrr!

trench coat / peplum tee / blue wool coat / varsity cardigan / joggers / flare hem dress
shirtdress // tassel earrings // levi's // bomber jacket // scallop waist skirt // embroidered blouse
ruffle one-piece // high-waisted leggings // cowl neck dress / cashmere cropped pants // vans // cashmere sweatpants
leather dress // utility raincoat // asymmetrical skirt // embroidered blouse // fringe sandal // merino sweater

take a look it's in a book : the books I'm always gifting

By 4/25/2018
i've been on a book-giving spree lately. i told you about the four agreements and how it was one of those what i needed when i needed it kind of things... so i've gifted that one to a few of my life-minded peeps.  along with that, i find these 4 books are always appreciated, by just about everyone.

perfectly imperfect home is practical advice for anyone who wants to make it nice.
and it's one of my favorite books of all-time - all the advice i gleaned from domino in one pretty handbook told through the lens of impossibly chic deborah needleman.  I think I've told you - I used to give this book to new furbish employees and say 'here's the deal - welcome".

there's really never been a time that giving less fucks wouldn't be to your advantage.  this cute little coffee table book is a great mix of get-it-girl oprah style advice mixed with a biting realism that reads more lady-boss and less saccharine sweet self-help.   throw in with a birthday gift, or good for a grad -- really any chick in your life that's ready to realize they might can do things a bit differently than they thought they 'should'.

gypset style is impractical inspiration for anyone who wants to make it extra-nice.  nothing groundbreaking inside, but i do like the vibe this books gives off - you know how just adding it to a vignette says 'i'm trying'.  let your friends know you support their efforts to be more effortless in their lifestyle endeavors.

and the thoughts i had but couldn't remember notebook is great for any friend that's busy doing all the things, and needs to instagram about it, because there's nothing like a neon pink book in the IG pic to get the likes.  a lifestyle prop, and a place to jot down your lifestyle propositions.  archie grand makes all kinds of cute little notebooks with sayings such as 'lovers i've had and liked',  'shooting estates I've been to and liked', and connoisseurs i met and liked.

look what I found

By 4/18/2018
lou & grey is underrated, i think.  they have some really cute stuff, and their store here in raleigh is actually good-looking. they do some great collabs and their basics are super-solid, plus reasonably priced.

remember when they first opened and we did a thing?  well, it seems it's time to do another thing, because everything on their site is 25% off this week (applied at checkout), and I easily found 10 things i could get down with.  i'm gonna throw some ideas out, and if you don't like them, throw them right back.

sweatshirt material black dress with at least two appendages covered - i'm in.  perfect with a cool pair of sneaks, like a basic shell toe or some of those fancy golden goose jobbys.  (that's made up).  the striped shirt is tres cute with it's little heart - i'd size up, wear it with a cahz (can we agree this is how you spell an abbreviated casual) front tuck, and a pair of high-waisted skinny levis in a dark wash.

you'd have to have a fairly sick body for this suit, and i'm sure you do, so let's agree it's perfect for you.  i've honestly been wearing a black linen jumpsuit from free people as a coverup, so i wouldn't be afraid to rock the green ones likewise, or i'd pair it with a basic black tee (love the arms on this one) and my Stella McCartney platforms.

if I was a snail, my house would be a flowly jumpsuit.  throw a chunky sweater over til it's warmer, and pair with a pair of white stan smiths.  and if the jumpsuit house has no vacancy, i'd move my snail-self over to these althlesuire pants that are doing the most for my lifestyle of comfort and ease.

if you're feeling extra cool for school, this super-soft striped cotton set would be great for vacay lounging.  and go ahead and pack the sandals too.  they're great with a jumpsuit, or cute jeans and a basic cropped tee.

a top that doesn't get carried away with being too happy -- i like the black contrasted with the bright stripes.  easy with cut-offs and a black sandal.  and a large tassel statement earring, okurrrrrrr.

closet cravings - my shopbop edit

By 4/11/2018
the annual shopbop sale of sales started this morning - everything is 20%, and 25% off if you spend $500.  if you've had your eye on the things, it's time to get them.

use the code EVENT18 when you checkout and throw some dollars up in the air to celebrate your savings.  my items of interest include the following, with a particular interest to that striped dress that could easily be combined with the camo jacket, the sneaks and a fun earring for your spring uniform. switch out the dress for v-neck tee and the cropped jeans on chiller days.  i have the joggers and really do live in them - if you can find the right fit, they're chic enough to travel in or run around town.  and again, pair with the camo jacket to look like you're doing the most.

1 - striped dress // 2 - wood earrings // 3 - jeans // 4 - black dress // 5 - earrings // 6 - floral jumpsuit // 7 - joggers // 8 - embroidered bag // 9 - golden goose sneakers // 10 - v-neck tees // 11 - earrings // 12 - camo jacket // 13 - eye clutch

cardigan, and again.

By 3/27/2018
i'd say i'm living a cardigan lifestyle these days. i've certainly made the move to wanting to wear comfortable things over tighter, ill-fitting, real housewives reunion get-up, and cardigans are becoming a staple.

i always fly in a long one.  i have two i switch out when the other can no longer withstand the world without a dry clean.  they're perfect for chilly planes, and i like how they add a little touch of magicry (made that up) and allure when they swoop out behind you a bit when you're rushing through the airport looking like you're not rushing.

i feel like they're fairly appropriate for spring, and it always looks more pulled together to have two things compared to just one.  you took the time.

on the other hand, they're a lot like a bathrobe sometimes in their casual nature, and i love that equally about them.

i like them so much i decided i needed to be more intentional about my cardigan purchases -- less happenstance, like grabbing that old aztecy one i got at urban outfitters when i wore sparkly toms.  ( i still wear it though).  with a higher purpose in mind, i took to the interwebs and i'd like to offer up these, my cultivated and curated cardigan choices, for living your very best cardi-b-gan life (lots under 50!).

it's amazing to me, knowing what i know as a retailer (profit margins, shipping costs, overtime, etc) that companies can do this, but madewell and jcrew are offering 30% off your entire order, and it will arrive by christmas.  if you're really up a creek for presents, here are a couple of things that would have to make just about anyone happy.
earrings // sweatshirt // slippers // candle // eye mask // pom pom garland
