state of the furbish union

By 3/23/2016

this makes me laugh.  laugh with me.

i want to update you guys on what's going down in raleigh-town with furbish.  you've seen the sneak peeks of the new space, and tomorrow we'll be announcing officially through our newsletter the company's plan moving forward.

furbish's online business has grown a good deal over the last two years - i feel incredibly lucky, but it was no happy accident.  we put a lot of effort and planning into it - bringing in experts, leaders and specialists to push furbish to the next level, sourcing unique products from around the world, building a large, engaged social media following and continuously reinventing ourselves so that it's never gets boring -- and it's working!

where we once planned to open more retail stores, we've shifted our primary focus right now to e-commerce, and we need a workspace that suits that model.  to accommodate, we are going to be headquartered at 309 dawson street, in the old melrose knitting mill (above babylon, for you raleigh folks), and from this space, we'll run both the online store, and the retail space.

our cameron village store will be closing, and we are going to open a new meticulously curated showroom and shop at dawson street.  i'm very excited about bringing the store back in house, because i'll get to do what i love again - style the products, create inspiring vignettes, showcase the finds from my travels, and interact with design-lovers who come to visit the shop.  the gorgeous bones of the building -- huge ceilings, loads of windows, reclaimed wooden floors and sweeping views of raleigh -- will add to the charm and compliment our vibe perfectly.

as many of you have noticed, i am not doing any design work currently, and i am not taking new clients this year.  the push for online growth is my focus, and takes my time, creativity and energy completely.

so to sum it up, here are the important bits:
  • our cameron village store will be closing on 4/3 and we're starting an amazing moving sale tomorrow 3/24 in-store only, everything will be 30% off, including lighting, artwork, bedding and rugs.
  • our offices are moving to 309 n. dawson street, and that's where the new store will be located as well. it is the second floor of the babylon building on the corner of dawson and lane street.  our entrance will be on the right side of the building.  you can park right out front by the door.
  • we'll hold events, classes and the quarterly flea at the new space.
  • we will announce the new store opening in mid-April, and of course, and fun opening soiree!

everything under one roof - and we'll have a bar.  #bestlife

  4. Finally something good is going into that building. What was it before the knitting mill, it had 18 years when it was owned by the headache drug guy. Congrats on the new location !

  5. Finally something good going to that corner of Raleigh. What was it before it was the knitting mill, it was built in the early 1900s but wasn't the mill until the 30s

  10. I love that you're not afraid to move on to the thing that works best for you, instead of holding on to something just to avoid change. I had to do the same!
It will be fabulous as always, and I hope to see it in person soon! Best wishes!!
